about

The Jingwei bird continued to fill the Sea of Sadness with stones until there was not even a drop of water above the stones. Some people came to the center of the Sea of Stones and started to build a tower there, which they called The Tower of Hope.

Not everyone could make the difficult journey across the Sea of Stones, and so some of those who could not make the journey began to build a road by pounding down the pebbles into gravel. They found that the labor made it easier to think more calmly about the things that had made them leave their homes in the first place.

This song is inspired by things my father has told me, things I've experienced myself, and my own difficult memories.

Musically, it is structured as if a group was singing together, something I've gotten to do disappointingly few times in my life. I've spent a lot of my life alone, and this song is in no small part a romanticized fantasy about what it would be like to have a stronger connection to my community.

lyrics

I pound the stones and I think about home
My body hurts more but the memories less

I am a wandering stone
I am a wandering stone

I can not leave it all behind me
I can make it just a little bit easier
I cannot make it go away
I cannot make it go away
