about

Since Dante couldn't see Sophia again, he chose to live on, but he had one more request for Mirabella.

All his life, he had wondered what it would be like to be a woman. As long as he had Sophia, it was never a pressing desire, but once he had no more worldly connections, nobody with any expectations, he felt that this was an opportunity to begin a new life.

So Dante was transformed into Beatrice, but never let go of that part of her past.

This was the most difficult song on the album, both thematically and technically. The themes and story relate to my own ambivalent, nonbinary gender. The production and lyrics reference the album The Human Equation, which is one of my favorite albums and has had a big influence on how I tell stories. In particular, the line "All my life, I have waited" and the stacked vocals are both references to Devin Townsend's performance on that album.

lyrics

All my life
I have waited
With trepidation
For this situation

Alone I stand
Before my god
Alone I stand
Beside myself

All my life
I have wondered
With fascination
About transformation

Alone I stand
Before my god
Alone I stand
Beside myself
Whom I must answer to

I have always been Dante
They will call me Beatrice
